Barbara
Edwards has been employed by the Alabama State Council on the Arts since
1978. Currently she serves as the Deputy Director. In this
position she is responsible for the overall general management of the
day-to-day operations of the agency and the agency’s research and
information systems.
Barbara was born in Birmingham, AL, but grew up in Montgomery. She is a
proud 1970 graduate of G. W. Carver High School (Once a Wolverine Always a
Wolverine!). She has a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Troy
University and is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Montgomery.
She loves her family, her church and strongly believes in the awesome
power of God. She is married to Woodrow Edwards and through their
blended relationship is the mother of one daughter and three sons. She
is Granny to Jahmari, A. J. and Kiera and Grandma to Jailan.
An active member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, she teaches the
Women ‘s Sunday School Class, sings in the Senior Choir and serves on
the Trustee Board.
Barbara has been a member of Women in Touch since 1985 and strongly
believes in giving back to the community and supporting positive growth
and development of young people.
